Concept Shoe Grinder

The request: create a functional prop for the unveiling of a new Adidas shoe made entirely from recycled material. The idea: grind the brand new shoes into small particles that would be used to create other shoes. Due to the legal requirements around the new shoe release, we were unable to acquire an actual sample of the shoe, or know the size of the shoes to be ground. As a makeshift solution we brought in various types of old sneakers to feed the machine in order to figure out the right gear reducer needed for the machine to successfully grind up shoes. The grinder machine’s body and teeth were created from stacked laser-cut plates, while the overall look of the device needed to be both aesthetic and intentional.
